“Anna Frank” Secondary School
The concept emerged from the goal of prioritising the educational space within the project, aiming to maximise its potential and dignity. Therefore, a compact and semi-autonomous teaching module was conceived, designed to maintain a continuous relationship with the environmental context. These modules are arranged in plan, interconnected by volumes intended for communal use, forming a U-shaped floor plan, a configuration complemented by the eastern bloc housing the cafeteria, auditorium, and library. The described form embraces a large internal green courtyard, spontaneously generated by the buildings, in a natural dialogue with the surrounding natural environment typical of this urban fragment. The volumes comprising the educational modules are dynamically articulated with a horizontal shift, responding to specific bioclimatic requirements. The courtyard space, central to school life, is enclosed by the aforementioned blocks and terminated by the rear facade of the central structure. A double-height portico, defined by slender pilasters, frames and organises the expansive windows of the main block, providing both shelter and a covered passage between the buildings. The intervention is conceived as a civic centre, aimed at serving the community. Beyond its educational function, the school complex is designed to integrate seamlessly into the city fabric, becoming a focal point for the surrounding area. All materials were selected after a detailed life cycle analysis (LCA) and consideration of carbon footprint, with a focus on minimising the school’s environmental impact. Renewable energy sources and ecological solutions are prioritised, adhering to CAM regulations.
